Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE EDWARDIAN ERA:
Engraved brass labels on the doors: typical Edwardian cellarette organisation.
Oak drawer linings with dovetails: cabinet making of the period.
Pine backboards show dark oxidisation and natural shrinkage: decades in dry storage.
Moulded fielded mahogany panels: early twentieth-century dining room joinery.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian wine cabinet is made from rich brown mahogany with a polished top above a solid moulding, six compartment cupboards featuring raised panel doors, and a lower oak lined dovetailed locking full drawer. Details include original brass label plaques indicating Irish, Scotch, Port, Sherry, Rum and Brandy above each door space, along with small oval brass spirit labels, key tassels, and a solid plinth base. Measuring 105 cm high, 75 cm wide and 44 cm deep, the piece offers compact proportions suitable for a gentleman's library or study storage. General light usage wear is visible across the timber surfaces, alongside original locks and three keys. The cabinet stands on small castors and incorporates solid panel sides and back for functional everyday use in a modern home.

FAQs

A cellarette is a wooden cabinet or chest designed specifically to store, cool, and lock away wine and spirit bottles, originating in the 18th century as a prominent dining room accessory.

Traditional cellarettes feature solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, often incorporating brass hardware such as key plates, handles, and spirit identification plaques.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joinery, original brass locks, flame mahogany field panels, and brass plaques designating specific spirits such as Port, Sherry, or Brandy.

Position the cabinet in a dining room, hallway, or study alongside modern artwork and contemporary wall finishes to create a balanced contrast against the dark timber.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish twice a year following the timber grain, keeping the cabinet away from direct heat sources and sunlight.
