Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The exterior displays detailed floral and foliate marquetry, ebonised borders and a vase motif across the single front door, frieze drawer, concealed base drawer and side panels. Hardware includes an ornate brass handle on the door and a keyhole escutcheon on the top frieze. Mouldings run horizontally below the marble top and above the base drawer. Inside, the cupboard contains a shelved storage area. Placed in a modern hallway, living room or bedroom, the cabinet provides a flat surface for display items while offering concealed storage space for household belongings.

FAQs

Marquetry side cabinets emerged in France during the 17th century and gained widespread popularity through the 18th and 19th centuries, characteristically featuring ornate wood veneer patterns crafted by master cabinetmakers.

These cabinets traditionally combine a solid timber frame with contrasting wood veneers such as walnut, ebony, and fruitwoods, frequently finished with a polished marble top slab and cast metal fittings.

Authentic period examples display hand-sawed wood veneers, hand-chiselled undersides on the marble top, hand-cut dovetail joinery, and natural age-related patination across the wood and metal surfaces.

A marquetry cabinet serves as a focal statement piece in a hallway, dining area, or living space when positioned alongside clean-lined contemporary artwork or modern ceramic decor.

Position the cabinet away from direct heat sources and bright sunlight to prevent veneer lifting or timber fading, dust gently with a clean microfibre cloth, and wipe marble surface spills immediately.
