Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Louis XV style furniture is defined by asymmetrical curves, cabriole legs, delicate marquetry or parquetry veneers, and ornamental gilt-bronze mounts. Pieces often incorporate natural materials such as marble tops and hand-painted central panels depicting rustic or figurative scenes.

Cabinets from this era frequently utilise hardwoods like oak or mahogany for the underlying carcass, surfaced with exotic veneers such as kingwood or rosewood. Tops are commonly crafted from shaped marble slabs, complemented by cast brass or gilt-bronze (ormolu) fittings and hand-painted medallions.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut wood veneers laid in geometric or floral patterns, showing subtle natural variations. Look for hand-chased gilt-bronze mounts with cast detailing, dovetail joinery in drawer construction, and genuine marble slabs cut to conform to the cabinet contours.

Position the cabinet as an accent piece in an entryway, dining room, or bedroom alcove. Contrast the detailed wood marquetry and gilt mounts against plain, neutral walls, using the marble surface to display structured ceramics or contemporary art.

Dust wood veneers regularly with a soft dry cloth and avoid direct sunlight or heat sources to prevent cracking. Clean marble surfaces using a pH-neutral cleaner specifically formulated for natural stone, ensuring spills are wiped immediately to prevent staining.
