Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Louis XVI style cabinets are characterized by linear geometry, refined proportions, classical motifs, and decorative surface techniques such as marquetry and chevron parquetry. These pieces frequently incorporate gilt-bronze ormolu mounts and imported marble tops, reflecting eighteenth-century neoclassical taste revived in the late nineteenth century.

These cabinets were typically built with a solid oak or pine carcass overlaid with fine exotic wood veneers like kingwood, rosewood, or walnut. Decorative elements include cast gilt-bronze (ormolu) mounts, hand-painted porcelain or enamel plaques, and fitted natural marble tops such as Rouge Griotte or Breche Rose.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, thick hand-cut veneers, and heavy, detailed cast-bronze mounts secured with handmade screws from the reverse. The underside of the marble top should show rough saw marks rather than smooth modern machine cuts, alongside natural oxidisation on metal fittings.

A French marquetry cabinet serves as a focal point when contrasted against neutral contemporary walls or minimalist interiors. Placing modern ceramic vessels or structured artwork on or above the marble top creates an intentional mix of period detail and contemporary design.

Dust the wood veneer regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax sparingly to prevent the timber from drying. Clean the marble surface using only pH-neutral stone cleaners, avoiding acidic substances, and dust the gilt-bronze mounts lightly with a soft brush without applying chemical metal polishes.
