Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This late 19th-century Chinese side table and small dresser base originates from the Gansu Province and dates from around 1880. Fashioned from dense locust wood, the cabinet possesses a warm brown tone with an exposed, prominent natural wood grain and a tactile patina that displays marks and stains across the overhanging top. The traditional form includes a rectangular top, two upper drawers fitted with circular metal ring pulls, and two lower cupboard doors secured by a central brass locking pin above three hanging metal rings. The architectural frame rests on four sturdy upright corner legs. Measuring 88 cm high, 101 cm wide, and 45 cm deep, this compact storage piece functions practically beside the front door or in a hallway as a functional credenza or console for everyday items. The interior storage compartment incorporates a removable centre muntin between the doors to permit full-width access. The structural design provides a timeless, universal style that integrates smoothly into contemporary interior schemes as an accent table or small sideboard.

FAQs

Late 19th-century Chinese vernacular furniture from the Qing dynasty is distinguished by its practical design, emphasis on natural wood grain, and regional craftsmanship using locally sourced timber such as elm, pine, and locust wood.

These cabinets were primarily crafted from indigenous hardwoods like northern elm (yumu) or locust wood, held together using sophisticated mortise-and-tenon joinery without nails, and fitted with hand-forged brass or iron hardware.

Authentic pieces display traditional joinery techniques, natural wear around the hardware and feet, original patination within the wood grain, and hand-cut brass locking mechanisms or ring pulls.

An antique Chinese cabinet can serve as a focal point in a contemporary space when paired with neutral walls, modern art, or simple ceramic decorative objects, balancing traditional texture with clean modern lines.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, keeping the wood away from direct heat sources or high humidity fluctuations, and periodically applying a high-grade natural beeswax polish.
