This early 20th-century display cabinet dates from 1920 and follows the Queen Anne style. Made from mahogany with a dark brown finish and glass, the piece stands 119 cm high, 93 cm wide, and 35 cm deep. The cabinet includes a central glazed door with a shaped, arched top and glazing bars, flanked by fixed glazed side sections with arched tops and glazed ends. The exterior features a moulded edge to the top, a raised upstand at the back, a carved shell motif cresting the door, a second carved shell on the shaped apron below, and cabriole legs with scroll-carved knees ending in pad feet. The interior has a fabric-lined background and two shelves. Suitable for use in a dining room, living room, or hallway, the cabinet provides storage and display space for china, glass, and collections. The mahogany timber displays a deep, rich colour and a mellow patina, with the wood grain visible across the front frame. The structure shows clean vertical lines through the glazing bars and upright framing, while the curved woodwork on the top edge and lower apron introduces softer contours. The glazed side panels and doors offer visibility from multiple angles, supported by sturdy cabriole legs that elevate the main compartment off the ground.

Queen Anne style furniture, emerging in the early 18th century, is recognised for its refined proportions, graceful curves, restrained decoration, cabriole legs, and motif details such as carved scallop shells.

These cabinets are predominantly constructed using solid mahogany or walnut, featuring glass panel glazing, hand-fitted joinery, and carved timber details on the apron and pediment.

Key identifying features include slender cabriole legs terminating in pad or ball-and-claw feet, carved shell motifs at the centre apron or crown, and natural age-related patination across timber surfaces.

Positioning the cabinet against a neutral background creates architectural contrast, while curating contemporary ceramics, glassware, or art volumes within the glazed interior balances historic craftsmanship with modern design.

Dust timber surfaces regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply natural beeswax sparingly along the grain once or twice annually. Glass panels should be cleaned with a glass cleaner applied to a cloth rather than sprayed directly onto surrounding wood.
