This is a 1900 English Traditional longcase clock made from oak and brass with a warm brown colour. The tall case has an arched hood with a glazed door enclosing an ornate brass arched dial with decorative brass spandrels, a silvered dial with black Roman numerals, original hands, and a Tempus Fugit boss at the top of the arch. Below the dial, the trunk has a single long wooden door with panelled construction, leading down to a square base raised on small bun feet. The clock stands 187 cm high and 42 cm wide. Suitable for a gentleman's library or hallway in a traditional home, the clock provides both a functional timekeeper and a decorative architectural focal point. It stands upright against a wall, bringing historical character and warm wooden tones to an interior setting.

An eight-day longcase clock is a tall, floor-standing pendulum clock driven by weights that require winding once every eight days. Developed in the late 17th century, these timepieces feature long pendulums housed within a wooden trunk casing to protect the mechanism from draughts and movement.

Longcase clocks are typically constructed with solid wood cases, often using oak, mahogany, or walnut, and house brass movement mechanisms. The dials are commonly made from brass or painted iron, adorned with cast brass corner spandrels and silvered chapter rings.

Authentic antique longcase clocks exhibit signs of historical hand-craftsmanship, including hand-cut gear teeth, sand-cast brass elements, and natural timber ageing. Examining dial inscriptions, weight construction, winding holes, and trunk joinery helps verify historical authenticity.

A longcase clock serves as an architectural anchor in an entrance hallway, dining space, or study, complementing both traditional and contemporary decor. Positioning the clock against a neutral or dark feature wall highlights the warm wood tones and brass metalwork.

Ensure the clock stands on a level, stable surface away from direct sunlight, radiators, or damp walls to prevent wood warping. The movement should be lubricated and serviced by a professional horologist every three to five years, while the wooden casing can be maintained with high-quality beeswax.
