Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Dating from the Victorian period around 1870, this matching pair of bedside chests is made from solid mahogany with a rich, warm brown timber colour and an unadorned polished finish. Each chest has four graduated drawers framed by simple moulded fronts, fitted with original rectangular brass card-pull handles and working locks. The sides show flush recessed rectangular panels, and the entire structure rests squarely upon a solid plinth base at floor level. One chest contains four separate drawers, while the companion piece includes three standard drawers above one deeper lower drawer, giving generous practical storage. Measuring 74 cm high by 48 cm wide and 45.5 cm deep, these sturdy cabinets fit easily beside a bed in a principal bedroom or guest room to hold lamps, books, and night-time essentials. Their classic English country house style blends effortlessly into traditional or transitional home interiors as bedside tables, lamp tables, or compact chests of drawers in a study.

FAQs

Victorian mahogany bedroom furniture, crafted during the reign of Queen Victoria, is characterised by rich timber tones, solid joinery, and functional storage designs often incorporating plinth bases and moulded drawer details.

These pieces typically feature solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over pine or oak carcass frames, utilising hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, internal dust boards, and brass or timber hardware.

Authentic 19th-century drawers display hand-sawn dovetails of unequal proportions, original steel or brass locks, solid timber drawer linings with historical contraction splits, and secondary woods used for backing panels.

Victorian bedside chests introduce visual weight and natural grain to modern bedrooms when paired with neutral wall palettes, modern upholstered beds, and contemporary table lamps.

Maintain mahogany by dusting regularly with a dry microfiber cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish annually, while keeping the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying or fading.
