  • Period19th century

This nineteenth-century Scottish armchair uses walnut timber with a dark brown polish finish and an upholstered seat in a pale blue fabric. The piece follows a Gothick style with a well-carved back featuring pierced tracery inspired by eighteenth-century pattern books, paired with a sturdy frame, shaped open arms, turned supports, and straight legs. A shrinkage split is visible on the back splat alongside minor losses to the carving, and a dent appears on the front right leg corresponding to a wood knot. The chair stands 99.5 cm high, 56 cm wide, and 54 cm deep, with a seat height of 46 cm. Positioned in a contemporary home, the chair serves well as a desk seat, a dressing table chair, or an occasional piece in a living room, hallway, or bedroom. Its compact footprint fits comfortably into smaller corners while offering sturdy seating with historic character. The neutral yet distinct blue upholstery integrates smoothly with various interior colour schemes, providing practical daily utility combined with traditional design interest.
