This pair of French Neoclassical vases dates from 1890 and is made from porcelain and gilt bronze ormolu. The baluster bodies possess a glossy cobalt blue glaze accented by ornate gilt mounts, including gilded rims at the top and base, alongside detailed ribbon-tied floral garland swags draped across the middle. Each vase stands 42 cm high, 13 cm wide, and 13 cm deep, measuring 13 cm in height. Placed on a mantelpiece or side table, these vases suit both contemporary and traditional rooms as a decorative accent. The set remains in excellent condition with no visible chips or cracks on the smooth glazed surfaces or the polished metal fittings.

During the 19th century, French decorative artists frequently combined rich cobalt blue glazed porcelain or cased glass with gilded bronze mounts, drawing heavy design influence from Neoclassical and Louis XVI traditions.

These decorative objects feature high-fired cobalt porcelain or glass vessels set into cast and hand-chiselled bronze mounts, which were subsequently gilded using mercury or electroplating methods.

Authentic pieces exhibit dense cast-bronze detailing with hand-chiselled finishing, visible age-appropriate patina on the underside, and deep, uniform cobalt glazing free from modern synthetic enamels.

Positioning a matching pair symmetrically on a fireplace mantelpiece, console table, or sideboard creates a balanced focal point that bridges classic period style with contemporary decor.

Dust gently using a dry, soft microfibre cloth or horsehair brush, avoiding water, chemical solvent cleaners, or abrasive metal polishes that could damage the delicate gilding.
