This Edwardian Art Nouveau drinks cabinet dates from 1910 and is made from dark mahogany with fruitwood marquetry, brass hardware, and glass. The symmetrical design incorporates two glazed cupboards flanking a central enclosed compartment, an open shelf with a railed back, two lower drawers, and slender splayed legs. The warm brown timber is decorated with flowing floral botanical marquetry, spade inlays at the top, and stylised drop handles on the drawers and central cupboard door. Measuring 144 cm high, 132 cm wide, and 43 cm deep, this drinks cabinet provides practical storage and display space for glassware and ceramics. It suits a dining room or living room as a cocktail cabinet, sideboard, or display unit in a traditional or eclectic interior.

Art Nouveau furniture from the Edwardian period typically features sinuous, organic lines and floral motifs integrated into traditional English cabinet-making forms. Mahogany remained a favoured wood, decorated with contrasting wood marquetry, delicate glazing, and stylized natural forms.

These cabinets were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, using contrasting fruitwoods such as satinwood or boxwood for decorative marquetry inlays. Glazed doors and brass handles or escutcheons were standard hardware components.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut marquetry inlays, dovetail drawer joints, and original glass panes within leaded or wooden astragal glazing bars. Look for organic, flowing floral or spade patterns characteristic of the 1890 to 1910 period.

An antique drinks cabinet functions effectively as a focal point in a dining room or living space, housing glassware and spirits behind glazed or enclosed doors. Style the top surface with minimal accessories to highlight the wood grain and decorative inlaid work.

Maintain mahogany cabinets by dusting regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and applying beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the grain. Keep the cabinet away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and veneer fading.
