This pair of George II brass candlesticks dates from the Georgian period and follows an English country house style. The cast pieces are formed from brass with a polished gold tone finish, displaying smooth metal surfaces and reflective highlights across the turned components. Each stick stands on a lobed, petal-shaped base with inverted edge sections, rising through a knopped baluster stem detailed with decorative rings and central swellings, and terminating in a scalloped nozzle with a petal-shaped rim. Practical dimensions measure 23.5 cm high, 12 cm wide, and 12 cm deep. Items of this type function well in a traditional home setting, suited for placement on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or dining table to provide ambient lighting. The symmetrical pair brings an established decorative accent to period interiors.

George II brass candlesticks, produced between approximately 1727 and 1760, feature cast metal construction, turned baluster stems, and distinctive geometric or lobed bases, including square, octagonal, and petal designs.

During the mid-18th century, candlesticks were commonly cast in sand moulds using yellow brass, often made in two longitudinal halves brazed together or constructed in threaded cast sections with turned details.

Authentic period examples often display vertical seam lines along the stem, slight irregularities in hand-finished turnings, core holes beneath the base, and smooth wear consistent with centuries of handling.

Placing a pair of 18th-century brass candlesticks on a contemporary mantelpiece, dining table, or sideboard creates an engaging contrast between historical metalwork and modern minimalism.

Clean gently using a soft microfibre cloth to remove dust and avoid harsh chemical abrasives; applying a specialized, non-abrasive metal polish sparingly helps protect the metal while preserving surface character.
