Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1800s:
Rough sand casting inside the hollow bases: traditional founding before modern precision methods.
Dark oxidisation and verdigris within the undersides: accumulated undisturbed over long decades.
Softened edges to the reeded columns: gentle wear from repeated handling and polishing.
Fine surface pitting on the stems: typical of early hand-poured metalwork.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These Georgian period candlesticks are made of brass with a polished yellow metal finish. Each piece has a slender column design, featuring a flared socket at the top, a reeded shaft in the lower section, and a stepped square base at the bottom. Surface wear is visible across the metal surfaces in the form of minor scratches and tarnish marks. Measuring 25.5 cm high, 11 cm wide and 11 cm deep, they stand on a flat surface without feet. Positioned on a mantelpiece, they provide traditional lighting and decorative symmetry in a living room, dining room or hallway. Each candlestick holds a single taper candle securely within its socket. The heavy, solid construction keeps them stable during use. They pair well with other antique metalware and traditional room accessories.

FAQs

Inspired by classical architecture, Neoclassical and Georgian candlesticks frequently feature fluted or reeded column stems, stepped square bases, and flared vase-shaped candle nozzles.

Most period candlesticks were cast from solid brass or bronze, often using two-part moulds with hand-turned or hand-chased decorative elements prior to final assembly and polishing.

Authentic antique brass candlesticks usually display subtle seam marks from casting, minor hand-finished asymmetries, substantial weight from solid cast metal, and visible age-related surface wear.

Positioning these classic metalwork items on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or dining table alongside contemporary ceramics and books creates a balanced mix of visual texture and height.

Remove accumulated candle wax using warm water and a soft cloth without abrasive tools, and apply a gentle metal polish periodically to maintain lustre while preserving underlying patination.
