Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of 19th-century Georgian brass candlesticks is presented in a warm gold colour with a polished finish. Each piece shows a cast construction featuring a flared sconce, a knopped turned column with raised rings, and a shaped stepped base with square corners. The surface exhibits subtle reflections from the metal work, and the bases display slight rounding at the corners. The dimensions measure 18 cm high, 9 cm wide, and 7.5 cm deep. Such items suit placement on a mantelpiece or side table to bring traditional English country house character to living spaces. They provide atmospheric illumination for dining tables or sideboards when paired with tapered candles.

FAQs

Knopped brass candlesticks featured turned decorative rings or knobs along the central stem, gaining immense popularity throughout the 18th and 19th centuries in Britain and Europe for both practical illumination and decorative appeal.

Traditional antique brass candlesticks were typically cast in two longitudinal halves and brazed together, or cast in sections using sand moulds before being hand-finished and turned on a lathe.

Authentic period pieces often display signs of hand-turning marks, seaming lines along the stem, asymmetrical irregularities, and historical wear or oxidisation within the interior base cavity.

Brass candlesticks add warm metallic tones to contemporary spaces when arranged in asymmetrical groupings on a mantelpiece, dining table, or side console alongside minimalist ceramics and glass.

Dust regularly with a soft cloth and clean using gentle brass polish sparingly, avoiding abrasive cleaners that strip natural surface patina or erase fine hand-chiselled details.
