This pair of 19th-century Georgian-style candlesticks is fashioned from solid brass with a warm gold colour and a polished metallic finish. Each piece displays intricate turning throughout the shaft, incorporating prominent vase-shaped columns, multiple turned knops, and flared taper sconces at the top. The stems rest upon solid square stepped bases with chamfered corners, showing subtle variations in tone across their reflective surfaces. They stand 24 cm high, 10 cm wide, and 10 cm deep. In a contemporary interior, these candle holders suit placement upon a mantelpiece, a side table in a gentleman's library, or a formal dining sideboard to provide ambient illumination. Their substantial construction and classic profile make them practical for everyday use as well as for display on open shelving or a console table.

FAQs

Georgian brass candlesticks typically feature turned baluster or vase-form columns resting upon stepped square, octagonal, or circular bases, crafted from cast brass.

Historically, brass candlesticks were cast in sand moulds using copper and zinc alloys, after which the sections were hand-turned, joined, and polished to a smooth finish.

Authentic pieces frequently display join lines along the column, threaded internal assembly, minor casting surface imperfections, and substantial weight consistent with solid cast metal.

A pair of brass candlesticks can be arranged symmetrically on a mantelpiece, dining table, or sideboard to add height, structure, and warm metallic tones.

Dust regularly with a soft cloth and dissolve wax residue using hot water; avoid harsh chemical abrasives that may strip historical patination.
