Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency brass candlesticks, produced during the early nineteenth century, typically feature turned baluster stems, circular stepped bases, and flared sconces. Many incorporated internal ejector mechanisms designed to raise and remove spent candle stubs easily.

These candlesticks were cast in brass, often utilizing seamed or cast construction techniques, and polished to a bright finish. The ejector mechanism consists of an internal metal rod connected to a side button or base slider that pushes wax remnants out from the nozzle.

Authentic pieces generally display subtle casting seams, hand-turned finishing marks, and wear underneath the base. The presence of functional push-up ejector rods and natural oxidisation within hard-to-reach recesses also points to period construction.

Brass candlesticks are commonly styled as symmetrical pairs on a fireplace mantelpiece, grouped in varied heights as a dining table centrepiece, or arranged on a console table alongside books and ceramic art.

Clean brass using a soft cloth and mild soap solution to remove surface dust, followed by a dedicated metal polish to restore sheen if preferred. Avoid abrasive pads or harsh chemical cleansers that could scratch the surface metal.
