Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Regency Chinoiserie table cabinet is constructed from wood finished with black and gold lacquer. The rectangular piece stands on four shaped bracket feet, featuring a double door closure operated by two small circular keyhole escutcheons. The exterior surface is covered in detailed gilt lacquer illustrations showing pagodas, figures, foliage, and architectural landscapes. The top is flat, while the base sits directly on the lower frame with carved floral motifs adorning the front corners. Measuring 40 cm in height, 38 cm in width, and 23 cm in depth, the compact storage piece sits comfortably on top of a sideboard or a large chest of drawers in a living room or hallway today to hold small household items or collectables.

FAQs

Regency Chinoiserie furniture features European interpretations of East Asian artistic traditions, prominent during the early 19th century in Britain. These pieces typically exhibit lacquer work, gilded landscapes, pagodas, and botanical imagery on dark wooden structures.

Table cabinets of this era were constructed using softwood or hardwood frames treated with multiple layers of shellac-based varnish or lacquer. Decorative detailing involved gold leaf, metallic powders, and hand-painted pigments to simulate authentic East Asian lacquering techniques.

Authentic Regency and Georgian chinoiserie pieces show natural age-related craquelure, subtle surface shrinkage along wood seams, and hand-drawn decorative variations. Hardware such as hinges and key escutcheons show hand-hammered iron or cast brass attributes typical of early 19th-century craftsmanship.

Position the cabinet atop a mahogany sideboard or a minimalist console table to serve as a decorative focal point. Pair it with neutral backdrops, brass accents, or structured ceramic vessels to balance the detailed decorative motif.

Dust lacquered surfaces regularly using a clean, dry, microfibre cloth without commercial chemical polishes or solvents. Keep the item away from direct sunlight and maintain stable humidity levels to prevent cracking or lifting of the lacquer and gold gilding.
