Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian wall-mounted display cabinet is made from solid figured oak with a warm brown timber colour, a lead cap to the top of the cornice, and a small moulded plinth to the base. The single hinged glass door has a moulded inner edge, a recessed brass loop handle, twin locks, and original reverse-painted gilt script that reads OPTICIAN. Inside, the cabinet contains ten adjustable quarter-plate glass shelves and a figured oak back board, complemented by moulded edges on the front corners and sturdy brass hanging wall plates. Measuring 106.5 cm high, 56 cm wide, and 9 cm deep, this shallow-proportioned piece suits narrow wall spaces in a gentleman's library or study. It functions well in a home today as a display or collectors cabinet for small curiosities.

FAQs

During the Edwardian era, commercial cabinetry was designed to showcase specialised goods in retail settings such as opticians and pharmacies. These pieces combined clear visibility with solid joinery to reflect the professionalism of the establishment.

These cabinets were constructed from hardwoods such as oak or mahogany, featuring glass panel doors, slim glass interior shelves to allow light passage, and brass mounting brackets or catches.

Authentic pieces feature period construction details including quarter-sawn oak grain, period brass fixings, gilded or hand-lettered signage, and original glass shelving supported by side runners.

A shallow wall-mounted cabinet functions as a focal point in a hallway, study, or cloakroom, serving as a display case for small objects, perfume bottles, or curated collections.

Glass panels should be cleaned with a damp microfibre cloth. The oak timber frame requires occasional application of natural beeswax to preserve the finish, avoiding abrasive chemicals or high humidity.
