Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This set of eight antique Regency dining chairs comprises a pair of elbow chairs and six single chairs, all constructed from warm brown mahogany timber. Each chair features a figured mahogany top rail, a carved bar back with a central splat, and newly reupholstered drop-in seats covered in red velvet fabric. The elbow chairs incorporate scrolled open arms, and the design is completed with turned tapering legs at the front and outswept legs at the back. Measuring 85 cm high, 50 cm wide, and 42 cm deep for the single chairs, these pieces offer a sturdy and structurally sound seating arrangement suitable for a formal dining room setting. The suite provides versatile accommodation around a large dining table, bringing traditional Regency design into daily domestic use.

FAQs

Regency dining chairs, originating in early 19th-century Britain, are characterised by classical proportions, curved cresting rails, carved central splats or bar backs, and elegant turned or sabre legs.

These chairs were predominantly crafted using dense mahogany or rosewood, often featuring hand-carved decorative elements, traditional joinery, and padded seats upholstered in velvet, damask, or leather.

Authentic period pieces display hand-carved joinery details, natural patination across the wood finish, and subtle irregularities consistent with hand tools rather than modern machine production.

Pairing dark mahogany chairs with a sleek modern dining table or placing them against pale neutral walls creates a balanced contrast between historical craftsmanship and contemporary aesthetics.

Dust the timber framework regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish along the grain annually to maintain the patination, avoiding silicone-based sprays and direct heat.
