Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian fire screen stands in a domestic hearth to protect a room from open flames when the fire is unlit, while adding a decorative element to the fireplace. The structure combines a warm brass frame and stand with a central mirror panel of bevelled glass. An etched starburst motif sits at the centre of the glass, complemented by a scroll handle at the top and cast feet at the base. Visible details include the aged patina on the metalwork and the bevelled edge running along the perimeter of the mirror. Practical in scale, the piece measures 77 cm high, 50 cm wide, and 18 cm deep. It fits easily in front of a living room fireplace to serve as a decorative focal point during warmer months when the hearth is empty. The traditional design suits period and eclectic interiors alike, bringing a reflective surface and metallic warmth to a traditional mantel setting.

FAQs

Art Deco mirror fire screens emerged in the 1920s and 1930s, designed to conceal empty fireplace grates during warmer months while reflecting natural light across a room.

These screens traditionally combine brass or bronze structural frames with heavy bevelled mirror glass, often featuring cut or etched geometric motifs such as starbursts.

Authentic period examples feature hand-bevelled edges, period-correct geometric cut-glass patterns, original patinated brass frames, and cast metal feet.

Position the screen directly in front of an unused fireplace hearth to bounce ambient light into the room, or display it as a reflective decorative accent in an alcove.

Clean the glass panel using a mild vinegar solution and a soft microfibre cloth, whilst wiping the brass frame gently with a dry cloth to preserve its original surface patina.
