Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian burr walnut furniture is distinguished by its rich, swirling grain patterns harvested from walnut tree growths. Popular during the mid-to-late 19th century, these pieces often feature warm amber hues, rounded corners, moulded edges, and solid plinth bases.

These chests were typically constructed using a solid pine or oak carcass covered in selected burr walnut veneers. Drawers feature hand-cut dovetail joints, solid timber drawer linings, and turned wooden knob handles attached with threaded screws or dowels.

Authentic 19th-century chests exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints that are slightly irregular, alongside secondary woods such as pine or deal inside the drawer linings. Look for natural shrinkage lines along the veneer and age-appropriate wear around the plinth base and handles.

A pair of Victorian chests can be positioned on either side of a contemporary upholstered bed to add depth, historical balance, and natural wood texture. They also function effectively as compact end tables alongside a sofa in a modern living space.

Dust surfaces regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth, following the grain direction. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the wood and veneer, avoiding silicone sprays and placement near direct heat sources or damp environments.
