Salisbury Antiques Centre has dated this piece to the 1870s.
The central upholstered back panel and generously padded seat are covered in a richly coloured floral tapestry-style fabric, finished with decorative braid.

The serpentine-fronted seat is raised on elegant cabriole front legs, with swept rear supports. The walnut has developed an attractive warm colour and patina, while the elaborate carving and barley twist uprights give the chair considerable presence.
A highly decorative example of Victorian seating, ideal as an occasional or bedroom chair.
