Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Louis XV Bergere is an upholstered French armchair characteristically designed with an exposed, hand-carved wooden frame, padded armrests, and an enclosed back. Originating in 18th-century France, these chairs feature curved cabriole legs and flowing serpentine lines suited to informal sitting spaces.

Traditional construction utilizes solid hardwoods such as beech, walnut, or fruitwood for the frame, which are often painted, gilded, or polished. Upholstery historically consists of natural fillings like horsehair and feather cushions, covered in silk, brocade, linen, or velvet.

Authentic pieces display asymmetry, S-curve cabriole legs without stretchers, hand-carved motifs like floral sprays or foliage along the crest and apron, and hand-cut joinery. Look for traditional peg construction, natural timber shrinkage, and original upholstery tack marks along the frame.

A French Bergere acts as an accent piece alongside contemporary minimalist sofas or structured mid-century furniture to introduce texture and historical contrast. Placing the chair in a reading nook, bedroom corner, or alongside a simple side table highlights its sculpted silhouette.

Vacuum velvet upholstery regularly using a soft brush attachment to remove dust without crushing the pile. Address spills immediately by dabbing with a dry cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners, and keep painted wooden frames away from direct heat sources and damp environments.
