Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A champleve mirror features decorative metalwork where carved or cast troughs in the metal frame are filled with vitreous enamel. Popular in France during the late 19th century, these pieces combine enamelling techniques with gilt bronze mounts to create ornamental dressing table accessories.

These mirrors are typically constructed using a cast bronze or brass frame that is gilded to produce a bright gold finish. The decorative borders feature champleve enamel applied as fired glass powder, holding a bevelled or flat glass mirror plate within the mounting.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-finished metal recesses with vitreous enamel that may show minute surface irregularities from hand polishing. The underlying bronze structure usually demonstrates substantial weight, cast seam evidence, and natural surface oxidisation on un-gilded reverse surfaces.

Position the mirror on a contemporary marble sideboard, chest of drawers, or dressing table to create a focused display. Combining ornate metalwork with clean modern surfaces creates an effective contrast between historical craft and current interior design.

Dust the frame regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or natural bristle brush. Avoid applying liquid solutions or chemical abrasives, as these can strip the delicate gilding and damage the enamel surface.
