For 35 years, I have specialised in selling and restoring Antique French Bedroom furniture. Each piece is meticulously revived to enhance both modern and classic spaces. Originating in 19th-century France during the Renaissance Revival period, Henri II style furniture draws architectural inspiration from 16th-century French design. Bedside cabinets of this era were designed as pot cupboards to discretely house night-time necessities prior to indoor plumbing.

These cabinets were predominantly crafted from dense hardwoods such as walnut or oak, often finished with turned stretchers, carved panelling, and topped with solid marble slabs to protect the timber surface from liquid damage.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved decorative elements, such as fluting and turned spindle legs, alongside hand-cut dovetail joints in the top drawer. Natural wear on the timber base and authentic patination on the marble top also indicate age.

While traditionally placed beside a bed frame, these vertical cabinets function equally well as occasional side tables beside living room seating or as standalone accent pieces in narrow hallways and foyers.
