Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating primarily in 19th-century Austria, Viennese enamel objects combined fine metalworking with vitreous enamel painting. Local artisans specialized in producing miniature decorative items, such as furniture pieces and boxes, decorated with classical mythological scenes and housing small mechanical clockwork or music mechanisms.

These items were constructed using copper or silver bases coated in vitreous enamel, which was hand-painted and fired. The structural frames, legs, and delicate trimmings were cast in bronze or brass and finished with mercury gilding, known as ormolu.

Authentic pieces feature finely detailed hand-painted enamelwork showing soft colour gradients rather than modern printed transfers. They also exhibit hand-chased gilt bronze mounts, period-appropriate winding mechanisms, and occasionally small Austrian hallmarking or maker marks on the metal rim.

Small decorative curiosities can be displayed inside glass curio cabinets, arranged atop a mantlepiece alongside framed artwork, or positioned on a stack of art books on a side table to add historical interest and texture to a room.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a fine feather duster. Avoid liquid cleaners, polish, or abrasive chemicals, as these can erode the delicate hand-painted enamel layer and strip the original gilded layer from the metal mounts.
