We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in rural regions of France during the 18th and 19th centuries, these cabinets served as food safes or larder cupboards. They were designed with ventilated spindle or lattice upper doors to allow air circulation while keeping food supplies protected.

Craftsmen typically utilised indigenous hardwoods such as fruitwood, cherry, oak, or walnut. Construction methods relied on traditional joinery techniques, including mortise and tenon joints, complemented by hand-forged iron or steel hinges and escutcheons.

Authentic examples feature hand-planed surfaces, hand-carved motifs, and original iron hardware with natural age-appropriate patina. Look for traditional joinery construction, irregular turned spindles, and signs of historical wear along the base and interior shelves.

This type of cabinet functions effectively as a freestanding kitchen larder, a dining room china display, or a linen cupboard in a bedroom. Combining the warm timber tones with contemporary neutral walls balances traditional texture with modern minimalism.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the cabinet away from direct heat sources and high humidity to prevent timber movement or splitting.
