Webberley Antiques has dated this piece to the 1900s.
These chairs were almost certainly designed by E.A. Taylor and made by Wylie and Lockhead in c. 1900 and so are attributed as such. None are stamped.
They are extremely robust with no movement and this is a very comfortable set if chairs – the tall shaped back with a gentle rake and curved splats.
The drop in seat pads are covered with a dark gold velvet, some pads with small marks and light wear but nothing significant and with no tears or holes.
There are a small number of very old woodworm holes on one chair – ib one of the seat rails at the side - where the chair has probably been sat up against a wall for many years. The worm is long since treated and dead on this one small section of timber, on only one of the chairs.
Lovely tapered legs terminating in chamfered and blocked feet.
A very high quality set of Arts and Crafts Oak chairs which have clearly always well cared for and in superb condition for age.
Dimensions are:
41 inches high, 21 inches deep, 18 inches wide. From floor to top of seat pad is 19 inches. The seat is 16.5 inches deep and 17.5 inches wide. The height of the back from the seat is 22.5 inches.
