Of exceptional quality and a rare collectors piece, this GEORGE III Silver Gilt Snuff box hallmarked for BIRMINGHAM 1816 by JOHN THROPP.
The snuff box features a classic ‘curved pocket’ or ‘waistcoat’ form, shape to sit flush against the body.
The lid is beautifully hand engraved with bright-cut floral and leafy scroll border set against a beautifully dense, hand-stippled background.
The central shaped cartouche features an elegant starburst shield which is vacant having never been monogrammed or personalised. The outer rims are finished with crisp geometric and arcaded border bands.
The interior has its original mirror like gold gilt wash and full set of hallmarks.
It truly is an exquisite piece. It does not look as if it has been used.
Measuring 6 cm x 4 cm x 1 cm and weighs 40.2 grams.
