Georgian Navette Shaped Paper Scroll Tea Caddy

Description

A fine and rare Georgian period tea caddy of navette shape and decorated with paper scrollwork. A superb example of this type of caddy, the box has a base wood of sycamore or boxwood with a striped line inlay around the lid. The navette shape of the box gives two large panels on the sides and also the lid which have been intricately decorated with rolled paper scrollwork. The scrolls have gilded edges arranged in floral motifs and are overall in good condition with the odd small areas of loss. The tea caddy is in extremely good untouched condition and is a fine and rare example. C.1790
