Lovely Pine tool box with it�s original varnished finish, stencilled on the lid with the company logo and inscription of The Gnome Et Le Rhone Engine Company; a French Aero engine manufacturer, producing engines from around 1914. The lid depicts Engine no. 102111, which would suggest it�s meant to accompany an engine dating around that period, although the company did go on to manufacture motorcycle engines later in it�s history too. The fact it has Engine No. and not Moteur, suggests it originates from the British-based arm of the company, but the low number also indicates an early unit in the series of manufacture.Obviously, this is a fascinating piece which has plenty of history attached, which is rife for digging up and discovering!It is in original condition, which has been thoroughly cleaned and revived; inside and out, enhancing the natural colour of the pine with wax. It has it�s original tray inside along with it�s lovely brass catches and steel painted carrying handle...
