Sinclairs Antiques and Interiors has dated this Scottish Mahogany Longcase Clock to the 19th Century.
The hood is crowned with carved cresting and turned finials, framing an elegant silvered dial with Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds, and a date aperture. The hands are finely pierced and typical of the period. Importantly, it is fitted with a dead‑beat escapement , this type of escapement is most often associated with higher‑quality longcase clocks and favoured by better 19th‑century clockmakers. The movement has been fully overhauled and serviced, and the clock is in excellent working order. A very attractive and well‑made East Neuk example, combining fine casework, a clean and readable dial, and a technically superior movement.
