A 19th Century Faux Bois Mirror

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Hobo Design

A 19th century faux bois mirror of large scale.

Modelled to resemble intertwined branches, the frame is decorated with carved vines, grapes and oak leaves picked out with soft gilded highlights. The crest centred with a perched bird among the vines.

The mirror plate itself is clear but with the most wonderful sparkle when it catches the light - we have tried to catch this in the darker shots but really doesn''t compare to seeing it in person.

Faux bois literally means false wood and was a popular decorative technique in the 19th century.

Hobo loves because: it manages to feel both antique and completely contemporary at the same time. The drama of the faux bois carving, the sparkle in the plate and the little bird perched at the top make it a real Hobo winner and the scale is just brilliant.
