Description

A good example of a primitive Windsor chair, most likely originating from the Westcountry. It has a saddle shaped solid elm seat with a flat front and the hoop back encloses tapered spindles with a three piece arm that curves outwards. The chair stands on four simple turned legs joined by a H-stretcher. It is a good comfortable chair, sturdy and well made.

It is in good condition for its age. It has developed a lovely patina and is structurally very sound, having had some of the joints strengthened. The chair is not without signs of age and use, some marks and knocks but nothing untoward. There have been some old repairs over the years but it displays beautifully and is a good usable chair.

It is approximately 40" (102cm) high and the arms are 21 1/2" (55cm) wide. The seat is 15" (38cm) deep and stands 17" (43cm) high.
