Description

A beautiful and highly decorative pair of antique Victorian bedside cabinets dating from the 1880s, crafted in rich solid oak and finished with elegant marble tops.

These striking cabinets display wonderful Gothic Revival influences, with finely carved details throughout. The upper gallery features delicate pierced carving and decorative finials, while the frieze below the marble tops is adorned with deeply carved foliage motifs. The cupboard doors showcase attractive carved draped fabric panels, adding a sense of craftsmanship and period character.

Each cabinet stands on elegantly carved turned columns with an open lower shelf, giving the pieces a light yet impressive presence. The marble tops not only add practicality and durability but also provide a refined contrast to the warm tone of the oak.

Dating from the late Victorian period around the 1880s, these cabinets have a wonderful aged patina and would make an exceptional addition to a period bedroom. They could equally work beautifully as statement side cabinets in a hallway, living room, or study.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Gothic Revival furniture draws inspiration from medieval architecture and design, typically featuring pointed arches, tracery, heavy carved wooden motifs, and structural elements reminiscent of cathedrals.

These cabinets are constructed from solid hardwoods like oak or walnut, utilizing traditional joinery techniques such as mortise and tenon, hand-carving, and brass hardware.

Authentic period pieces display age-appropriate wear, hand-cut joinery, period-correct hardware, and consistent patination on the interior and exterior wood surfaces.

Pairing dark, heavily carved antique cabinets with neutral walls, minimalist lighting, and contemporary textures creates a balanced scheme that highlights the historical craftsmanship.

Maintain antique wooden furniture by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and periodically applying a microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the timber.
