This Rudolstadt Volkstedt porcelain wall mirror dates from around 1900 and exemplifies the Rococo Revival style. The piece consists of a glass mirror plate set within an elaborately moulded porcelain frame featuring rocaille scrollwork, shell motifs, and an asymmetrical scrolling cresting at the top. The frame displays a multicoloured finish combining soft turquoise and vibrant pink glazes, accented with gilding along the inner and outer edges, and is further decorated with encrusted three-dimensional pink and yellow roses and green acanthus leaves. The reverse bears a printed Crown and K factory mark. The frame shows no damage and no restoration, presenting an excellent overall condition with smooth porcelain surfaces and intact floral encrustations. Measuring 81 cm high and 52 cm wide, this wall mirror suits placement above a sideboard in a dining room or living area, bringing decorative Victorian charm to an interior wall.

Originating in the 18th century and revived in the late 19th century, Rococo porcelain mirrors feature intricate ceramic frames decorated with asymmetrical scrollwork, shell motifs, and hand-modelled floral encrustation produced by European manufactories.

These frames were slip-cast or hand-moulded from hard-paste porcelain, painted with overglaze enamels, detailed with gilding, fired multiple times, and subsequently fitted onto a supportive wooden backing to secure the glass plate.

Authentic pieces typically display underglaze blue factory marks on the reverse, such as a crown above a V or letter, accompanied by fine three-dimensional porcelain flowers showing precise ceramic modeling.

A Rococo porcelain mirror serves as an accent piece when positioned above a neutral sideboard or console table, contrasting delicate historical ornamentation against contemporary clean architectural lines.

Dust gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush or compressed air to avoid damaging delicate porcelain petals; avoid applying liquid cleaners to gilded sections or raw backing materials.
