Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

George III seating, originating in 18th-century Britain, is characterised by classical proportions, refined line work, and prominent use of dense mahogany. Features often include reeded back rails, curved armrests, elegant splats, and turned or tapered front legs.

Craftsmen primarily utilised solid Cuban or West Indian mahogany joined with traditional hand-cut mortise and tenon joinery. Upholstery was secured over wooden frames using tacks, with decorative reeding and turning applied directly to the timber.

Authentic pieces display evidence of hand-carving irregularities, original tool marks beneath the seat frame, natural timber shrinkage over time, and a deep oxidized patina. The weight of the dense, old-growth mahogany is also a key indicator of age.

These versatile armchairs function well as statement desk chairs in a modern home office, paired flanking a console table in a hallway, or placed at either end of a contemporary dining table to create visual balance.

Maintain mahogany timber by applying a natural beeswax polish twice a year and wiping with a dry microfiber cloth. Keep the chairs away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber warping and fabric fading.
