A lovely Victorian walnut writing slope with brass strapping and a matching brass inlaid cartouche and escutcheon. The box also comes with its original working key.Inside, the box is fitted with a maroon leather writing surface with a gilt tooled edge. It comes with a pair of glass inkwells, a pen tray and there is a small stamp slope and lidded compartment. There is a secret compartment with 3 small hidden drawers below the leather surface that springs open by lifting a piece of wood next to the inkwell.The box is in very good condition for its age with a beautiful patina. The leather writing surface is in good condition with some minor wear along the crease. There are some minor old knocks and marks around the outside of the box and some small shrinkage splits but nothing detrimental and overall it displays beautifully.The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions just ask.
