A Very Fine Dressing/jewellery Case

19th century
Description

An impressive and especially fine quality lady’s DRESSING & JEWELLERY CASE in lovely original condition. The case itself is of finely figured coromandel-wood, with brass-bound edges and matching cartouche and key escutcheons. The lid opens to reveal the impressive interior filled with 13 silver-topped bottles and jars, which surround not one, but two trays of gorgeous tools and implements (one above the other).

These include: 2 pairs of fine scissors; MOP penknife; silver pencil; MOP and silver pen and various other items. To the base is a fitted velvet-lined jewellery drawer (with lid); to the side is a further spring-loaded drawer, whilst within the lid is the concealed mirror and leather document pouch. Complete with twin patented Chubb locks and original working key.

The silver is hallmarked for London 1859, and the maker is James Vickery, whose family went on to become one of London’s leading gold and silversmith retailers, offering luxury goods to wealthy Victorian patrons. A gorgeous; complete and original fitted Dressing Case which is highly recommended.

*** Please note that this particularly fine Dressing Case is not on view in the shop; for further details telephone 07860 818212 or e-mail in the normal way.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
