Georgian Double Handle Jelly Glass

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: The World is Made of Glass Ltd.

This is a scarce Georgian, English, plain bowl jelly or syllabub glass with a double handle dating from the second half of the 18th century, c1780.

The glass is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with some 200 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.

The glass has a bell-shaped bowl measuring 7.5 cm (3 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is plain and sits directly on a knop containing air tears and a plain, domed and folded foot which measures 6.5 cm (2.6 inches) in diameter. The glass is 11.5 cm (4.6 inches) in height. The two opposing handles were first applied to the top of the bowl and then finished off at the bottom of the bowl with curlicues. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. The bowl sits slightly askew on the foot.

English lead glass weighing in at 200 g. (~ 7 oz.).
