FAQs

The Regency style, spanning roughly from 1811 to 1820, draws heavily on classical Greek, Roman, and Egyptian motifs, characterised by clean lines, classical proportions, and dark woods such as mahogany.

Regency dining chairs were predominantly constructed from dense, durable hardwoods like solid mahogany, often featuring hand-carved details, sabre legs, and upholstered drop-in seats covered in traditional textiles.

Authentic pieces exhibit period joinery such as hand-cut dovetails and tenons, traditional patina, subtle signs of age in the wood grain, and construction methods consistent with early 19th-century cabinetmaking.

These chairs can be paired with a minimalist contemporary dining table to create a striking contrast between old and new, adding historic character and architectural interest to a modern dining space.

Maintain mahogany furniture by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood splitting, and nourish the timber periodically with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicon polishes.
