Description

Regency convex giltwood mirror

A circular giltwood frame mounted with gilded balls to the inner rim, with a carved wood stylised eagle to the top and acanthus leaf detail to the base. Presented in excellent condition with brightly burnished water gilding to the inner rim and balls. Framed with a convex mirror plate.

English, circa 1820

The convex mirror has been used as a design to spread light around the room and bring life to the interior by adding an additional dimension. The late Georgian a Regency periods particularly utilised the design. This is a very good example with well carved detail and presented in good order with bright gilding.
