Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Writing slopes became extremely popular during the Victorian era as literacy rates increased and correspondence became a daily necessity, providing a portable desk surface for writing letters before the widespread use of fountain pens.

These pieces were typically constructed from a secondary softwood base veneered in exotic or highly figured hardwoods like burr walnut, mahogany, or rosewood, and reinforced with brass corners, straps, and escutcheons.

Authentic pieces generally feature hand-cut dovetail joints, cedar or mahogany secondary interiors, traditional screw types with irregular threading, and natural wear consistent with age rather than artificial distressing.

A writing slope can be displayed closed on a console table, side table, or bookcase to add texture and historical interest, or opened to display vintage inkwells and stationery as part of a curated vignette.

Preservation involves keeping the wood away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the veneer from cracking or lifting, and periodically applying a microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the finish.
