FAQs

The Regency style, spanning roughly from 1811 to 1820, is characterised by classical symmetry, neoclassical motifs inspired by ancient Greece and Rome, and the use of dark, rich timbers like mahogany.

These pieces were typically built using solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, often featuring hand-turned legs, carved crest rails, and traditionally upholstered drop-in or stuffed seats covered in horsehair fabric or silk.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails and mortise-and-tenon joints, natural patination on the timber, hand-turned components, and signs of age-related wear rather than modern machine tooling.

Pairing dark wood antique seating with a contemporary minimalist dining table creates a striking contrast that anchors the room and highlights the craftsmanship of the period pieces.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, applying microcrystalline wax periodically, and avoiding silicone-based polishes.
