Each with mercury plate set within an elaborately carved frame, enriched with scrolling acanthus, floral swags, and rocaille motifs. The pierced cresting, with interlaced C-scrolls and asymmetrical flourishes, reflects the Rococo influence seen in Chippendale’s Director.
The quality of the carving is particularly noteworthy, with crisp detailing and a lively sense of movement throughout. These mirrors would have been a significant commission, likely intended for a grand interior. Pairs of mirrors from the period are increasingly scarce, making them a remarkable survival from the period.
