A Beautiful Large Early 19th Century Italian Giltwood Mirror.
This mirror is in the regency/empire taste but made in Italy and retains all it''s originall gilding. The frieze features a repetitive pattern of alternating stylised anthemions with stalks of corn. Between pairs of columns with leafy capitals are two pilasters with urns on pedestals from which sprout enormous flowers. All of this carved work sits atop a pounced ground with cross hatched detailing which is very attractive.
The mirror has an inverted breakfront outline and sophisticated detailing. Italian furniture of this period is slightly more architectural and formal.
A very good example of Italian mirror production.
