Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Large painted tea canisters were traditionally used in 19th-century grocers and dry goods merchants to store loose tea leaves. They featured prominent numerals or lettering to assist shopkeepers in quickly identifying distinct tea blends or grades.

These canisters were built using rolled sheet metal or tinplate, folded or soldered at the seams, and coated in a protective lacquer or oil paint. The graphic numbering and scrollwork were hand-painted or stencilled onto the exterior.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of natural age, including paint chipping, surface oxidisation, and craquelure along areas of frequent handling. Construction details such as hand-soldered seams and minor variations in hand-painted lettering also indicate age.

An antique tea canister functions well repurposed as a waste paper bin in a study, a utensil container in a kitchen, or a decorative accent in an entryway. Its historic graphic lettering adds texture and visual interest when placed beside wooden furniture.

Maintain the surface by dusting regularly with a dry, soft lint-free cloth. Avoid applying water, liquid detergents, or abrasive polishes, as moisture can penetrate paint cracks and cause underlying metal oxidisation.
