Victorian Wing Armchair

19th century
Description

A pretty wingback armchair dating from the mid to late 19th Century. It has traditional raised shaped wing sides and it stands on turned front legs with its original brass castors below and splayed rear legs with ceramic castors. It has nice large proportions and is a good comfortable chair. The castor wheels are stamped for 'Cope & Collinson'.

The chair has been upholstered in a good quality Crewelwork style fabric that compliments the chair well. It is not new upholstery and there are some signs of wear and use and some light staining on the arms and bottom of the cushion however it does have separate arm covers. There are no damages and the chair looks clean and fresh and is perfectly usable as it is or will serve as a good solid frame for recovering.

The chair is in good overall condition and is strong and sturdy. There are a few general marks and knocks around the legs but nothing detrimental.

The chair stands approximately 45" (114cm) high, 28" (71cm) deep and 30" (76cm) wide. The seat is 18" (46cm) high.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
