Georgian Elm Rush Seat Carver Chair

18th century
Description

A good quality Georgian carver chair dating from the late 18th / early 19th Century. It is a good country piece made from elm with a beautifully carved and pierced back splat. It has curved arms with lovely scrolling ends and carved detail running back along the arms. It stands on square legs and the chair has a drop-in rush seat pad.

The chair has been well used and has developed a lovely rich patina. It has been well looked after and maintained over the years and as such has some good old repairs but it is strong and sturdy. There are some other minor signs of age and use, some small knocks and marks here and there but nothing detrimental. There are some minor signs of historic worm in places which has all been treated as a precaution and hasn't affected the chair structurally or aesthetically. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.

The chair is a good large size and comfortable to sit in. It stands approximately 38" (96cm) high and is 25" (64cm) wide across the outer arms. The seat is 18" (46cm) deep and approximately 17 1/4" (44cm) high.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
