Fine Chippendale Revival Gainsborough Armchair.

A Superb quality late Victorian Gainsborough type Armchair from the Chippendale Revival period. The Chair is in Mahogany and stands on four fantastic carved ball and claw feet, the legs curve elegantly upward to carved acanthus leaf knees. It is very unusual for this type of chair to have four such legs they were usually only for the front legs and having four is a sign of quality and gives the chair an enormous presence. The arms are beautifully curved making it a generous chair and also are carved around the show wood. Both the seat and back are typically shaped for a Chippendale period chair. The whole has been upholstered to a high level in a cream Damask and is finished in tight metal studding. Would make a stylish drawing room chair or impressive desk chair.
